The new headquarters of the Fédération québécoise des chasseurs et pêcheurs (Quebec hunting and fishing federation), located in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, represents a natural response to the client’s environmental concerns in relation to its surroundings. The choice of a prefabricated wood structure having a total area of 1,269 m2 made it possible to not only meet budget but also to achieve a simple built system. As well, in the vicinity of the building, the restoration of a former marsh and the laying-out of paths for use by citizens supported the client’s desire to showcase its wildlife preservation efforts.

Other distinctive features of this project include integrating this building into a wooded residential area, coupled with respect for construction techniques and building outlines characterizing the neighbourhood typology. Cladding materials and colours were selected with a view to minimizing the visual impact of the building on its environment. The various shades of red cedar boards, not to mention the Douglas pine frame, impart a rhythm to the building’s façades.

Out of a concern to use local resources, the designer opted to accord priority to Quebec businesses when purchasing wood materials. The cost of installed wood products was $310,000, out of a total budget of $1.65 M.
